Many networks require the user to enter a PIN or agree to the terms of service before access to the Internet is granted. In some cases, enterprise IT teams require company employees to pass through the portal before getting on their own network.
If your device can connect to your network and obtain an IP address, but can't reach the Internet, a captive portal is a likely cause.
Follow these steps to remedy the issue:
Using MAC Address
Allowlist the device's MAC address on the network equipment that is responsible for directing new connections to the portal. For more information on locating a MAC address, see this article.
Using the MAC address for allowlisting isn't always the fastest approach, but it's the more permanent one.
Using the Device's Browser
- After connecting a keyboard to the device, press Alt + Esc to open the app menu.
- Press Tab, then use the arrow keys to navigate to the browser.
- Press Enter.
- Use keyboard/mouse to enter corresponding credentials and accept any usage terms.
Notes:
- This requires a USB keyboard and mouse.
- This process may need to be done periodically
- While performing this, the screen will flash black and show the Enplug loading screen. When this happens, press Escape.
